In 1975, God called CBS’s founder, Lee Campbell, to step out in faith as He laid out the mission of Community Bible Study: To make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in our communities through caring, in-depth Bible study available to all. That year, the first CBS class launched in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, featuring the Gospel of John as its initial course. Quickly, CBS classes expanded across the country and the world to London, UK (1979), and Lima, Peru (1980), offering classes for women, men, and children.

During this decade, God provided leadership for extensive growth both in the United States and internationally. Called leaders, committed to CBS’s vision of seeing transformed lives through the Word of God, focused on reaching children and youth by modifying lessons to be more accessible to a younger audience. 

As He reveals His plan for expansion and directs a way to make Bible study available to all, the full impact of the mission of CBS is realized. The ministry expands to reach those in prison, college aged and professional groups, as well as continuing to focus on youth in their early teens.

This decade was a time of unification and extensive growth. By 2015, CBS grew to 85 countries with 139,220 participants. During this time, CBS continued to provide new studies for groups such as young adults, adults with intellectual disabilities, English language learners, and even studies for children to participate in after school.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS adapted by embracing online capabilities, ensuring continued growth. CBS began to expand from a community class model through collaborations with denominations, churches, and organizations, helping the ministry grow 439% over this decade. During these years, CBS launched new initiatives like Spoken CBS, CBS Connect, and the CBS Global Servants Team to continue transforming lives around the world.
