Translation to Transformation

Our sovereign God lovingly makes the connections to rescue an unbeliever.

Fufu was contracted to translate Community Bible Study lessons from English to Siswati, the language of Eswatini in southern Africa. She said working on the lessons was transforming, so she joined a CBS class. Her enthusiasm for the class attracted her husband, Dumsani, who is a police officer.

When they moved their family to another location, Dumsani asked their new pastor if the free time before Sunday worship could be used for a CBS Bible study. The pastor said yes, if Dumsani would teach it.

Two weeks into the study, a Portuguese-speaking visitor walked into the study. He had no knowledge of English but had a skeletal knowledge of Siswati.

Dumsani arranged to get Acts lessons in Portuguese from CBS Mozambique for him, and encouraged him to study and participate in the discussion as much as he could with his limited Siswati.

Seven weeks into his participation, the man asked to be led to Christ and to be baptized. He said he was convicted as he read about salvation, baptism and the Holy Spirit in Acts. Dumsani prayed with him, and the church leadership gladly baptized him.

Today, the new believer is joyfully participating in CBS studies, Dumsani is the national coordinator for Eswatini, and Fufu is the national Children & Youth trainer.
