Conditions in the South Sudanese refugee camps in northern Uganda are heartbreaking to see, but the CBS Ambassadors shed tears of joy for what God is doing there in this report.
We went to 18 classes in three days, leaving at 6 or 7 a.m. and getting home about 7:30 p.m. The drive to the camps can be anywhere from 1 to 3 hours one way on washboard roads.
When we went to the Dinka camp, the adults gave testimonies. One man stood up and said, “I praise God for CBSI and the study of God’s Word. We have been learning to love and forgive since we have been doing CBSI, and we have not killed anyone since studying the Bible. Our lives have changed.”
He wasn’t kidding. They actually are brought up to hate and kill other tribes.
Lots of kids are everywhere, and some want to touch us; others are scared of our white skin. They think we are ghosts.
I love visiting the Bible studies and seeing all that God is doing. There is a song that says, “Come and see what the Lord has done.” I sing it quietly as we drive home from the camps. Every time tears start rolling down my cheeks.
What a great God we serve!
